A green Yarra is an essential part of Melbourne and must be integrated to allow safe pedestrian and bicycle access

Lord Mayoral candidate Gary Morgan has promised the Greenline trail project along the Yarra River will go ahead as planned if he is elected as Melbourne’s next Lord Mayor in October.
Former Lord Mayor Sally Capp’s vision of integrating the City of Melbourne with the Yarra River via the Greenline trail project is a good idea. Arron Wood’s call over the weekend to scrap the ‘Greenline trail’ project is wrong.
The Yarra River is an essential part of Melbourne. Everyone in Melbourne, whether visitors or residents, wants safe and ready access to enjoy the Yarra.
On either side of the river residents of East Melbourne, South Yarra, Southbank, Docklands, and the CBD understand that safety for pedestrians and cyclists next to the Yarra, is essential so everyone can enjoy a Greenline trail.
The Greenline trail is an important project to integrate the Yarra River with the City of Melbourne by allowing consistent and safe access along the Yarra for pedestrians and cyclists.
Last week Melbourne Lord Mayoral candidate Gary Morgan said:
“Safety and accessibility must be the No. 1 priority with all Melbourne Council policies relating to all vehicles, bikes and private scooters plus pedestrians – in the CBD and all areas of the City of Melbourne.
“The City of Melbourne now needs a master mobility plan which integrates all vehicles, bicycles, walking and public transport.”
The Greenline trail is the obvious centrepiece of such a plan.
