Collins St. needs safe bike lanes – or not at all
Collins St. bike lanes are not safe, not properly integrated, and don’t assist mobility and movement. They’re useless, confusing for everyone and lead to many accidents.
Collins St. needs safe and proper bike lanes or for these bike lanes to be removed once and for all – everyone knows they are dangerous.
In contrast to Collins St, examples of good mobility planning are the bike lanes in Exhibition St. & William St. – that is the model needed in Collins Street. In addition, one side of Collins St. should have no parking – a simple solution.
Safety and accessibility must be the No. 1 priority with all Melbourne Council policies relating to all vehicles, bikes and private scooters plus pedestrians – in the CBD and all areas of the City of Melbourne.
The City of Melbourne now needs a master mobility plan which integrates all vehicles, bicycles, walking and public transport.
This would need safe bicycle lanes in Collins St. with better signage which provides ample warning to motorists and pedestrians.
To do this the Melbourne City Council needs to work with the State Government on issues regarding traffic flows – it is the State Government’s responsibility as they control the road rules in Victoria.
We support the ban on e-scooter shared scheme. The trial undertaken was a failure of public policy by the State Government and the Melbourne City Council and the companies involved ‘trashed’ their social licence, including safety – the No. 1 priority with all policies relating to scooters, bikes & pedestrians.

Margin of Error
The margin of error to be allowed for in any estimate depends mainly on the number of interviews on which it is based. Margin of error gives indications of the likely range within which estimates would be 95% likely to fall, expressed as the number of percentage points above or below the actual estimate. Allowance for design effects (such as stratification and weighting) should be made as appropriate.
