‘New Melbourne’ needs a Sensible & Safe Scooter Strategy

Topic: Press Release
Finding No: 9703

Melbourne needs a sensible and safe scooter strategy – and that means integrating the use of scooters and e-bikes with the existing Free Tram Zone to provide a seamless ‘visit Melbourne’ experience for commuters.

Lord Mayoral candidate Gary Morgan is advocating a proper integration of new transport options including scooters and e-bikes with Melbourne’s extensive public transport infrastructure.

The ban on e-scooters within the boundaries of the City of Melbourne provides an opportunity to ‘park and ride’ for commuters utilising e-scooters from other suburbs around Inner City Melbourne.

Commuters on e-scooters and e-bikes should be able to ‘park their ride’ at dedicated zones on the boundaries of the extended Free Tram Zone (FTZ) and seamlessly utilise the multitude of tram routes that traverse the City of Melbourne.

New ideas are needed to improve transport infrastructure in Inner Melbourne and increase safety for commuters. Creating a shared mobility zone will help curb road congestion, reduce pollution and provide the growing population of Inner Melbourne with cheap and sustainable transport options.

There are critical gaps in travelling around Inner Melbourne, and e-scooters and e-bikes can save people time by avoiding a long public transport trip in and out of the city.

Earlier this week Melbourne Lord Mayoral candidate Gary Morgan explained that the Collins Street bike lanes are not safe, not properly integrated, and don’t assist mobility and movement and should either be fixed and made safer or removed entirely.

See here to learn more about Mr. Morgan’s policy for fixing the mess that is the Collins St. bike lanes.

Gary Morgan is the only major business owner running for Melbourne’s Lord Mayor who knows residential problems – having worked and lived in the City of Melbourne for more than 60 years!

Mr. Morgan is a founder and life member of the Committee for Melbourne which recently announced a merger with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce (VECCI).

Mr. Morgan is the Executive Chairman of Roy Morgan, Australia’s largest independent market researcher and knows the City of Melbourne better than any other candidates for Lord Mayor.

Mr Morgan’s vision for the city will transform Melbourne into a prosperous and bustling metropolis that will again be fit for purpose after the mismanagement of the last four years.

Margin of Error

The margin of error to be allowed for in any estimate depends mainly on the number of interviews on which it is based. Margin of error gives indications of the likely range within which estimates would be 95% likely to fall, expressed as the number of percentage points above or below the actual estimate. Allowance for design effects (such as stratification and weighting) should be made as appropriate.
