Understanding Skills Across Australia
A national survey to understand the skills Australians need to participate fully in society.
Australians have a wide range of skills which are used across many different areas to help build our local and wider communities. This survey will look at some of the skills which we use every day.
The information collected in this survey will be used to produce important insights about the skills Australians need to actively participate in our society – whether that’s through job or study opportunities, accessing services, or engaging with friends, family, and the community.
Roy Morgan is conducting the survey on behalf of the Australian Government agency, Jobs and Skills Australia. Jobs and Skills Australia’s vision is for the full skills potential of our nation to be realised, resulting in improved workforce participation, productivity, wages, and equity.
You don’t need to do anything further for now. In the next few weeks an interviewer will visit your home to conduct the survey. If it is not convenient for you at that time, the interviewer can arrange a suitable date and time with you.
If you are not at home, the interviewer will leave a note letting you know that they came by and will try again at another time.
In the next few weeks, an interviewer from Roy Morgan will come to your door to undertake the survey. They will begin by providing some background information, and then selecting one member of the household aged 15 years and over to complete the survey.
The survey is made up of two main parts:
- Background Questions: Firstly, the interviewer will ask the selected person some general questions on topics such as age, gender, work, and education. This part will take between 10 and 15 minutes.
- Self-complete Activity: Then the interviewer will get the selected person to complete a range of everyday problem-solving activities. This will take around 60 minutes.
Although completing the survey is voluntary, your participation is very important in understanding the skills of our nation. Your household is one of only 20,000 randomly chosen for the survey and we need to understand your unique skills to get the best quality results. The person who completes the survey will also receive a $100 EFTPOS card.
By taking part, you will be helping inform government initiatives to get Australians the skills they need to actively participate in our society. If you have any questions or concerns about the survey, please call 1800 216 753.
The information collected for the survey will be kept confidential and is protected by Australian law. Strict processes are in place to ensure that your information is handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 and the requirements of the Australian Privacy Principles. Information is only collected for research purposes and will never be published in a way that is likely to identify you.
A Privacy Impact Assessment was completed for this survey to manage, minimise, and eliminate any potential privacy impacts.
